5 Signs You Need a Roof Replacement in the Willamette Valley
Oregon’s Willamette Valley puts a lot of stress on a roof. Here are five signs worth paying attention to.
Shingles that are curling, cracking, or missing. Wind and rain gradually loosen and lift shingles. If you notice bald spots on your roof or granules collecting in your gutters, the shingles are likely past their useful life.
Moss and algae growth. A little moss on the north side of a roof is common in Western Oregon, but thick moss growth traps moisture against the roof deck and can work its way under shingles, leading to rot over time.
Water stains on ceilings or interior walls. Interior staining almost always means water is getting through somewhere. Even a small, slow leak can point to a larger problem with the underlayment or flashing.
Your roof is nearing or past 20 to 25 years old. Most asphalt shingle roofs in our climate last around two decades. If yours is approaching that age, it’s worth having it inspected before a storm forces the issue.
A sagging roofline. This is one of the more serious signs, and usually points to structural damage from prolonged moisture exposure. A sagging deck should be looked at as soon as possible.
